Light boxes in WebPlus not working - common causes and solutions

You’ve  probably been there, placed all your images and links, added all the options to the light box, published the site, no light boxes, just a new window. What is the problem? You have tried re-formatting them and goodness knows what else and still no light boxes. Here are some of the main causes of the problem with the fixes:

1. If you have applied special effects to your image such as shadow or reflection, when X5 saves the image it applies a map to it, the light box code  does not like it’s hyperlinks hidden in maps, so cannot always locate the necessary code to construct the light box.

2. Your images are too close together and WebPlus is merging them into one image.

Fixes to try:

A. Remove the shadow or other effect and re-do the light box options.

B. Space your images further apart. Particularly if they have effects applied as this will usually increase the size of the image but it may not be fully visible in your page.

C. If the hyperlink on the picture is to a web page, place a shape (box) on top of the image, format it’s fill to transparent, line to none. Right click the shape, click ‘Export Options’ and check the box ‘Exclude this picture from optimisation…’  Then place your hyperlink on this shape and add your light box options. Voila! Now works.

D. If the hyperlink is to a picture, you have a couple of options.

Again place a shape (box) on top of the image, format it’s fill to transparent, line to none. Right click the shape, click ‘Export Options’ and check the box ‘Exclude this picture from optimisation…’  Then right click the picture, and click ‘Export Options’, check the box ‘Save to my chosen path and filename’, select and copy the filename in the box below. Add a hyperlink to the Shape you just created, selecting ‘Internet page’, paste the file name you copied into the URL box (remove the http:// already there),  add your light box options and you are done.

Or

Place a shape (box) on top of the image, format it’s fill to transparent, line to none. Right click the shape, click ‘Export Options’ and check the box ‘Exclude this picture from optimisation…’  Then add a hyperlink to the shape, and select ‘File’, browse to the picture on your computer and click ‘embed in site’ if not already checked. Add your light box options. Job done!
